What is it with Aussies?

Thank you to Tara, Tony & Andy! We're now through the $3k barrier!!!

The so called Tall Poppy Syndrome is an irreconcilable trait to all things Aussie. It doesn't just relate to the cutting down of individuals but companies as well.

Case in point: QANTAS.

In general I like to challenge people when they coat-tail onto fashionable derision. Whether it be on matters or race, politics, suburb, schools or airlines.

Now I should just mention that QANTAS were asked to offer some sort of sponsorship to this event and they declined. It's fair enough, they have clear guidelines and it was a stretch to think they would get onboard. They respectfully declined well within their service levels - even though they said they'd carefully considered my request and couldn't spring me the flights, which isn't what I was after... Can't have been that careful.

Anyway, I've bumped in to a lot of people that have knocked QANTAS from time to time. It's fashionable - more often than not they can't back it up. It's like ribbing on South Australia (side note: another South Aussie has won Raw Comedy - congrats Demi Lardner). I think it's harder for South Australians to be as funny as their interstate counterparts because they are deprived of a sizeable body of material; unless they're self-state deprecating. I digress...

On Jo's 40th we scored a points upgrade to business class on the A380 from Sydney to LA. An Air Canada flight was cancelled due to a medical emergency on the in-bound and so our bird was full. When the A380 is full they lock a gate on the stairs to separate the decks. Our friends were downstairs and we asked the dude who was handing out the arrival forms whether we could visit our friends down below. Paul said he'd do one better and invite our friends up for a drink in the lounge at the front of the top deck of the A380. After meal service he delivered and so we had an impromptu party at 40,000ft.

Anyway, Jo sent a thank you message to QANTAS and they called her today to say thanks for saying thanks. Nice.
